Springfield, VA, February 21, 2025 – PD Power Systems, LLC, a privately held Veteran-Owned Small Business, announced that it received a $114M Firm Fixed Price Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract award for the Prime Power Distribution System (PPDS) for the U.S. Army. The contract will have a five (5) year Base Period and a five (5) year Optional Ordering Period.
The PPDS builds on PD Power System’s legacy power distribution products and capabilities to modernize existing units in the U.S. Army’s Deployable Power Generation and Distribution System (DPGDS) while also providing reliable and versatile power. The improved capabilities will increase the efficiency of the prime power systems.
The PPDS consists of four (4) power distribution products:

- Improved Primary Switching Center (iPSC): Based on PD Power Systems’ legacy PSC, the iPSC provides safe isolation of medium-voltage and is designed for safe operation conforming to the National Electric Code (NEC) for outdoor use.
- Improved Secondary Distribution Center 1 (iSDC-1): Based on PD Power Systems’ legacy SDC, the iSDC-1 is 150kVA secondary substation equipped with a ruggedized transformer designed to step-down medium voltages, 13,800VAC or 4160VAC 3-ph Delta power to 208VAC 3-ph WYE/120VAC 50/60 Hz distributed through multiple circuit breaker protected Class L and single-pole connector outputs simultaneously.
- Improved Secondary Distribution Center 2 (iSDC-2): Based on PD Power Systems’ legacy SDC, the iSDC-2 is 150kVA secondary substation equipped with a ruggedized transformer designed to step- down MV, 4160VAC 3-ph Delta power to 208VAC 3-ph WYE/120VAC distributed through multiple Class L and single-pole connector outputs simultaneously.
- Tactical Prime Power Transformer (TPPT): The TPPT is a type III – FSC 6120, self-contained, dual-purpose transformer system rated for continuous 500kVA power output, supplied in a free-standing, ISO standard 1496-1 Type II Tricon container modified to meet the environmental requirements including high & low temperature, rain, blowing sand and dust. The TPPT is designed to step-up LV to MV or step-down MV to LV.
Thousands of legacy Secondary Distribution Centers (SDC) and Primary Switching Centers (PSC) have been successfully delivered and deployed around the world and continue to be in use.

These 900kW power units support multiple U.S. Army organizations to include the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power)/FEMA, Force Provider Expeditionary, and various current and future Missile Defense Agency Programs. These power units are designed to operate in the stringent and harsh operational environments encountered in the field, providing medium voltage of 4160/3800VAC at 60/50Hz. The iPSC, iSDC-1, iSDC-2 and TPPT work-hand-in hand with the Prime Power Unit (PPU).
In addition to supporting Army programs, PD Power Systems also provides ground power units (GPU) to the U.S. Air Force. A $482,000,000 maximum Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite-Quantity contract for 72kW GPUs was awarded in November 2022 by the U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. The contract provides for development, testing, and production of 72kW GPUs along with associated data deliverables including test reports, provisioning and technical manuals. Deliveries will continue through November 2032. The PD Power Systems 72kW Ground Power Unit (GPU) is designed to provide stand-alone external ground power to all aircraft in the U.S. Air Force inventory.
