Guam, 1 August 2025 – The U.S. Army’s new missile defense radar has landed in Guam for testing in an operational environment. The PD Power Systems MEP-PU-810s have successfully been used, from inception, to support the critical power requirements of the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) program. Extensive testing at White Sands Missile Range, NM took place in the past few months, accompanied with training and validation of our power units in support of the program.

Pictured is U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll with the newly arrived LTAMDS alongside a PD Power Systems MEP-PU-810 Prime Power Unit. The MEP-PU-810 units have also successfully supported the THAAD flight test radar. The power units provide various configurations and interface capabilities to scale and support all current and future large power requirements.

The power units, built by PD Power Systems, support multiple U.S. Army organizations, to include the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power)/FEMA, Force Provider Expeditionary, and various current and future Missile Defense Agency programs. The 900kW power units are designed to operate in the stringent and harsh operational environments encountered in the field. PD Power Systems was awarded the contract in 2017 to recapitalize the MEP-PU-810A and MEP-PU-810B units.

PD Power Systems currently offers three variations of the power unit:

  • MEP-PU-810C – The MEP-PU-810C model power unit is mounted on a two-axle wagon-style chassis equipped with surge actuated hydraulic brakes, a lunette-ring hitch tow bar, and is designed for low-speed mobility (up to 20mph), towed by vehicles without trailer brake controllers.
  • MEP-PU-810D – The MEP-PU-810D model power unit is mounted on a two-axle chassis, equipped with air actuated brakes, a 5th wheel kingpin hitch, and is compliant for the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) transport at highway speeds (up to 55mph), towed by tractor/trailer vehicles.
  • MEP-PU-810 DC – The MEP-PU-810 DC model power unit includes all the features of the D model built with additional power control and switching characteristics.

PD Power Systems’ relationship with the U.S. military was established decades ago. Since then, PD Power Systems has provided thousands of power generation and distribution units, and various pieces of support equipment that are still in use today. Other products include Primary Switching Centers (PSC), Secondary Distribution Centers (SDC), Power Distribution Panels (PDP), Ground Support Equipment (GSE), and a variety of load banks.
